As you’re reading this you can imagine that I am frantically prepping my house and my family for my mid-week trip to sunny SoCal.
I fully expect that I will not sleep at all tonight because I am a procrastinating slacker when it comes to packing and I can’t seem to remember to wash my unmentionables until the hour before I have to pack.
Rest assured however that I will be catching some zzz’s on the plane tomorrow with little or no regard for innocent bystanders who will have to play host to my lolling head while they try to restrain themselves from jumping from the plane midair to escape my buzz-saw-like snoring (I get congested when I fly, so shoot me).
I’m sorry in advance if you are traveling on my same flight.
Before I hit the road though, I’d like to share with you some pics taken this last month with The Dudes.
Dumb Dad and I have been trying to carve out special time with each of the boys (so they get the focused type of attention their bad behavior is telling us they crave); doing things with the older one or two that are inappropriate for the younger one, and vice versa.
Like, I took #1 out to see Maryland’s largest hot air balloon…

We got up at the butt-crack of dawn and hauled ourselves out to a freezing cold air strip to learn about ballooning and to watch the first flight of a new craft…

It was fun until we started to feel like we were gonna lose a limb to a wicked case of frost bite.
We’re scheduled to take a tethered flight in this bad boy on March 10th. Should be fun and not overly daring. Or freezing cold.
I also took #1 and #2 to see a magician. Or an, um, illusionist at Black Rock Center for the Arts…
Personally I think that sort of thing is way corny. But, they like magic illusion and I love being able to take them to see any kind of performing artistry in action.
So, just for my own enjoyment, I also took them to a Cody Simpson concert! Yep, I’m a lover of teen pop stars. It’s sort of our my thing as evidenced by the huge smile I’m displaying and the seriously-why-am-I-even-here-right-now-my-mother-is-a-sicko face of #2…
Don’t let him fool you though; he loved it. Mostly because there were a bunch of screaming girls in his immediate vicinity, but still.
He decided right then and there that he was officially renouncing his harmonica for the guitar. Chicks dig Dudes who play guitars; everyone knows that, including my 6 year old.
And, just to get some for real family time in, we took The Dudes to the Roads and Rails Museum, a train museum in our town. They loved it enough to actually touch each other without fighting, which means this place is quite possibly enchanted…

Even I was intrigued by all of the hand made awesomeness…

I also realized, while uploading these pictures this week, that I have over 5,000 photos on my computer! Can you even believe that?!
Yeah me neither.

omword! That last photo is simply priceless!!!!
Gorgeous photos as always, you guys get to do the best stuff.
Love that last pic of all the boys together! And the balloon shots… so pretty.
Loved the concert pic. The boys enthusiasm cracked me up. You wouldn’t catch me anywhere off the ground with a huge balloon above me. Haven’t you watched “UP?”
Dana
First, those are amazing pictures! The balloon, the tiny miniature city, the silly face they made of you all together
Next, I know exactly what you mean about “bad behavior” craving alone time! My 5 yo daughter is starting to act up at school. It just happens that these past 2 weeks her daddy has been working 80 hrs a week too. Correlation? I think so….
I love hot air balloons. I think it would be cool to go up in one and I can’t wait to see your pics!
I love the hot air balloon pictures. The colors are so bright and cheerful.
Looks like we’re both thinking the same thing this week. How the hell to entertain these heathens when you can’t just throw them in the backyard and ask them to run in circles!
BTW LOVE #2′s look of complete and utter annoyance at the concert. So. Damn. Funny.
I looooooove hot air ballooning! One of my good friends from college, his dad had a team that would go out every saturday, and so one weekend I got to go flying with him and it was AMAZING.
Can I be one of your kids? I would enjoyed all these activities! Have fun in SoCal, it should be a nice break from the cold in the DMV area.
Gorgeous shots. My oldest who is 6 wrote me 2 notes asking if just her and I could go and do something together
I have 3500 pics on my laptop – but it is only about 6 months old lol
And I have been trying to be better about deleting those terrible shots with blinking eyes or completely OOF. I see another external hd in our futures
Enjoy SoCal – have an In-n-Out for us!
There is a mall where I live that has this model train village set up and the detail on such a small scale amazes me.
I always love your pictures. You seriously have to teach me. I have always had a thing for miniatures, they fascinate me especially if hand made and detailed. I think of the patience someone had to have to do all that.
I will have to take my boys to the Train place. Daddy is obsessed with model trains and I am sure the two little ones will be as well. Have fun going up in a Hot Air balloon!!
Looks like you all know how to have fun. Hopefully you experience some sun in sunny so cal. It’s been cold and raining but I suspect coming from true cold weather you will probably think it is summer time over here on the left coast.m
Thank you and Angie so much for having liked my post last week about the boy’s non-training. It was fun to write.
I hope you have a magnificent time in Cali (cough: jealous). I giggled when you specificed the balloon would be tethered. Can you imagine going into the air like Professor Marvel?
Such a funny post, and great pics! I keep meaning to have special activities with each of the kids, especially now that the baby takes so much of my attention, but I never quite seem to do it… ::parentng fail:: So good for you for following through, and for picking such cool activities to boot!
I definitely need a better place to store my millions of photos. My external hard drive is almost full.
That pic of your dudes at the Roads and Rails Museum? Priceless. Although, I’ve caught a few of those “they look so sweet hugging” photos, but the real photo? Not hugging, but rather trying to off one another. I hope in your case it was true sweetness!
Those are some fun photos! I love the one of the three boys looking in the window. That is just so sweet, oozing with brotherly love!
Have a safe trip! I can’t wait to hear all about it!
You guys rock.
We are getting ready to start doing a lot more of those things.
I reeeeeeally wanted to link up this week, but had to do something else. Next week for sure.
I can envision this scene of you sleeping on the plane, vividly. Too funny. Great pics.
You are going up in a hot air balloon? That is on the list of my top fears. I will commence panicking for you until you are finished.
Love love love the photos. Especially of the hot air balloon. You guys have been so busy out and about you’re making me feel like a slacker for only hitting one museum this weekend. =)
Wow those hot air balloons look awesome! I think it’s easy to see that kids had a blast at all the fun events. Way to go mom!
Looks like so much fun!! Looks like you have an awesome family – fun!
