Dumb Mom’s Guide. Google Friend Connect is Dying So What Now?

by Dumb Mom on January 23, 2012

Something scary is just about to happen in the land of the blog.

Google Friend connect is dying!

**Insert ominous music**

So, what does that mean for all of you lovely people who at some point, rather by force or by choice, pressed the follow button over there in the pBd sidebar?

I’m not entirely sure, but I’m guessing it’s something bad.

Because bloggers everywhere are freaking the freak out about it.

So, I’m getting on that band wagon.  Because I’m always down for a good freak out (as long as it doesn’t require me to dress poorly, sleep in a bunker with other hideously clad individuals, and die).

And, they made a pretty little button and clever hashtag (#SOSubscribers) that I wanted to get in on too!

In an effort to ensure that all of this amazing writing and gorgeous photography doesn’t go to waste, I’m going to show you a plethora of ways to keep up with me and my life on the blog once Google Friend Connect implodes or whatever.

I’d hate for you to miss something.

Dumb Mom’s Guide to Keeping Up With Someone Way More Exciting Than the Khardashians pBd

1.  Subscribe in a reader.  But, only if you actually read your reader.  I gave it a good fighting try, but then it got all filled up with a bunch of blogs that I really had no interest in reading I got, um, busy and stuff, and I needed to downsize, or something.  Only, because I don’t like to waste time figuring out how to work things, instead of actually downsizing my reader I sorta just went away from it entirely.   Forever.   So, as someone who doesn’t read her reader ever or have any plans to actually do so, I implore you, only go with this option if you’re a reader reader.  If you’re like me, choose one of the other options.  Or, consider reading Momma Made It Look Easy’s post on how to subscribe in a reader.  She really does make it look easy!

2.  Get pBd straight to your inbox.  Because everyone reads all of their emails everyday, right?!  Personally, I’m an email-aholic.  Thank God for being grandfathered in to a reasonable data plan because I check my email sometimes 30 times a day, usually on my phone.  And, while I realize this isn’t really for everyone, subscribing to pBd by email will ensure that you at least see a glimpse of the hotness I’m dropping over here on the daily.  And, I’m working on upping my titling awesome specifically for the benefit of all of you email readers.  You know, to entice you to click.  Because really, how can you NOT want to read a post titled, “10 Easy Ways to Convince Your In-Laws You Really Do Like Them” (a post I’ve not yet written, but promise too in the near future).

3.  Bookmark pBd.  This is my preferred method of blog interaction.  I basically have blogs in different categories including but not limited too, “Blogs Better Than Mine”, “Blogs as Good as Mine”, “Blogs I Wish Were Mine”, and “Blogs Written by People I Stalk to the Point of Being Creepy”.  I visit these blogs pretty much almost sort of just about every day.

4.  Follow pBd on Facebook and Twitter.  I FB and Tweet my blog posts daily.  Sometimes, numerous times so no one misses it, but not enough to be annoying.  If you join me there, I will make it my mission to remind you regularly to join me here too.  It’s just how I roll.  And, you can even join me on the Networked Blog FB Application.  You know, if you’re down with that.

5.  Pin pBd.  Make yourself a board like this: Best Mom Blogs Evah.  Then visit me everyone on it every day.  Feel free to add to it as you find blogs that make you love them too.  I’ve put my button right here in this post for ease of pinning.  You’re welcome!

See how easy that is?  To not be left outta the pBd loop.

Now, hop to it, I expect my FB, Twitter, and RSS readers to increase exponentially after this…

I just deleted my GFC widget, too! But, I use my reader. I need to do a reminder post like this…or maybe I’ll just redirect people to your post, and just swap out my info:)

I am already following you on FB! I tried the readers myself and I hated it. I thought I was the only one! I use folders in my favorites to read my fave blogs. You are first on my list!

I’m a reader reader. You are safe and snug all in there where I can find you every day.

Now, the Pinboard idea is good. I will probably subscribe by email.

When I was on blogger there was a reading list right there in the dashboard. I wish WordPress had the same (I’ve found forums that claim it should be there, but I think they were old; I can’t find no damn reader (irritated b/c I’ve been looking!). Anyway, maybe I’ll try Google Reader b/c I just skim emails. I get too many and tend to let my eyes glaze over. My question is can I embed the reader in my WordPress dashboard? B/c if I have to go to an entirely different site to read the reader…wait, I’m already doing that through Blogger. I never closed that account fully just b/c it still has all the blogs I’m subscribed to.

Like I said last night, you are a rock star.

I am really, really glad I kept my blogger account active, because that’s still how I read all the blogs I follow.

I do have you in my Google reader and will hop to it and get you in my FB feed as well because I don’t want to miss any “dumb mom”. Because then I would have missed your criteria for a freak out: “as long as it doesn’t require me to dress poorly, sleep in a bunker with other hideously clad individuals, and die.” HA!

Yeah I use Google Reader too, so no chance you’ll lose me :) (not that you know who I am, but still :P )

I don’t read my reader either. I’m all about the email. So I won’t miss a post, I swear. I can’t figure this out. Is GFC going away all together or just for blogs not hosted on Blogger? I’m so confused! (And please PLEASE write that post about the in-laws. Thanks!) :)

So sad that GFC is going away. I know eventually those of us with Blogger blogs will be affected too:( However, there is a new follower tool that might even be better than GFC ever was;) Check it out!
