Wordful Wednesday. How to Ruin a Snow Day.

by Dumb Mom on February 2, 2011

Here we are, another Wordful Wednesday, another ice covered snow day from hell indoors.

I haven’t crawled out of my icy McSnow shack to snap photos yet, but I don’t have to because I have photos from just a few days ago to share and they look pretty much exactly the same way as today.

Lucky me!

Now we can spend another day couped up inside of Casa de Dummies trying our hardest not to redrum each other while stuffing our faces with chocolate covered goodies.  Then, we can traipse over to the most awesome neighborhood snow slope on the planet.  Along with the rest of the neighborhood…

Seriously, it really is a pretty fan-freakin-tastic snow slope.  It’s a perfectly steep, bowl shaped area that begs for foolish brave people and naive children to sled and snowboard all up on it…

You feel like you’re at the winter games or some Xtreme sports thingy (do give you an idea of what I’m talking about here, where those kids are standing in the photo, it drops off to even more shredding awesomeness.  Imagine the hugest swimming pool ever, just with snow covered grass)…

Unless you’re me, and then you feel like you are gonna break your elbow or throw out your neck or lose a tooth. Do you think if that happened I could get Dumb Dad to drag me back up the hill like this?

Naw.  Me neither.

So, instead of surfing the slopes, I chose to protect my deck (that’s gangsta for staying safe with feet firmly planted on the snow) and snap shots like I always do…

It’s all fun and games…

until someone gets a snowball down his shirt tired hungry fed up with being cold.  And, then the ugly comes out…

And, I get punched in the thigh the fun is over.

I then proceed to bring every one of my ungratefully screaming-crying-whining-fighting-child-beast kid home, peel of their wet clothing, wrap them up in something cuddly, and give them something nice and warm and good to eat (yes, I’m mommy-awesome like that).

You know, right after I shake the living day lights out of #2 for embarrassing us in front of the WHOLE NEIGHBORHOOD.*

Thank goodness there was no swearing involved.

*Just so you don’t freak out, “shaking the living daylights out” is code for, walking away in shame and attempting to ignore the screaming-man-child like I didn’t birth him myself, or even know anyone who did.  Too bad his rampage included falling to the ground and holding onto my ankle while I tried to march away in indignation.  That was super hard to play off.

Have a photo themed post to share this week? Angie @sevenclowncircus and I would love you to be our guest:

These photos are gorgeous, as usual. Kinda makes me wish it actually snowed here. And that hill? Total awesome-sauce.

Sorry for the tantrum at the end there. I feel ya girl. Stay warm!!

LOL. Looks awesome, but that comes with the territory with snow days. I remember the good ole days when you were picked out and had to succumb to a snow bath. That was suckage.

Great pics as always.

Have a great day, we are still getting bad snow here and we had freezing rain that pounded our windows. CREEPY.

Luckily ours turned out not to be as bad as predicted. Either way snow is my nemesis and I’m so happy to hear the the home Pauxatawney Phil predicts an early spring!

I was dying at your final commentary. I have so been right there with you. :) Never a dull moment in mommy land that’s for sure. I hope the fun beforehand was enough to cancel out the ending :)

Um, maybe for him. I kid. We had a great day filled with lots of memorable moments. Some good. Some downright horrific!

Looks like fun, for the kids. I’d be the one standing at the top taking pics too. Only I’d be shivering and whining the entire time. I do not like the cold.

I don’t like the cold either! I’m from L.A. for crying out loud! But, Dumb Dad told me to pretend to be fun so, after I sulked a bit, I did:)

Oh my goodness! Haha! I’m SO glad that we haven’t gotten pounded with snow. Actually we haven’t even gotten a drop of snow. Oh sorry, you probably didn’t want to hear that, huh?

The photos are great! Sorry you had to leave the fun with your tail between your legs.

Man I miss snow!! We just moved from Dayton at Wright-Patt, AFB to Fayetteville at Pope AFB. We are 70 degree weather which is fabulous but it is January. This scare me come July/August. Enjoy the snow for the rest of us!!! :D

I’m not a snow lover. So, wanna trade? Although I will require my house back come summer time!

I don’t want the snow, but it does make for some good pics.

I say this in the most genuinely complimentary, and non-lustful way:

Dumb Dad is a looker.

Oh dude, I’m going to have to delete this comment! Don’t want him getting a big head and I’m sick of him telling me that I’m the lucky one. So not true!

THose are great fun-in-the-snow pictures. That’s how our sledding/playing the snow experience usually ends too. Someone (aka-older child) throws snow ball at sibling (aka-younger brother) and the fun….is….done!

Yeah it was a neighborhood kid who would up getting a little of his wrath too. She was sorta asking for it though!

Your photos always amaze me. I had a hard time concentrating though after I read chocolate covered goodies……:)

Perfect slope for fun in the snow! I’d only be able to handle so much of that though. Too cold for my taste ;)

I boo cold weather too. I’m SO not a fan.

I want to say you missed all the fun but if it was me, I’d be the one holding the camera too and protecting my deck! lol

It does look beautiful all that snow and people making fun memories.

I can say that because I’m sitting inside this warm house (freezing outside but no snow) and living vicariously through your lens (since you weren’t out there doing it) in a way. lol. Ok done garbling.

Love the photos.

Stay warm!

You stay warm too! I don’t know where you live, but I’ve heard about some pretty cold locales this week and I can only imagine. Somehow, yesterday turned out to be nearly 50 degrees here! Only to have it back below freezing by midnight. I cherished my moment in the sun.

It was cold, but I found that my UGGs are surprisingly warm and waterproof!

I would love just ONE RUN down that hill … then a child-free hot toddy!

Reply

Dumb Mom February 3, 2011 at 5:48 pm

I did one run and was left with soaking wet gloves and bruises on my booty. I’m too old and too big of a baby for sledding!

Reply

Kelly February 3, 2011 at 3:10 am

That slope is awesome! I could feel the cold, though. I’d be hangin’ with you on the deck.

I love your description of “shaking the living daylights” out of no. 2. I myself often use that exact same form of punishment.

Gotta go with what works, right? That’s what Dr.Phil always says!

That is a “good” formula for ruining a snow day:-(
