Whew! What a summer!
Tons of giveaways (Natural paint winner: @frugalmomto4 & Dumb Family Vacation Giveaway winner: @twincident).
A couple of cool blogging events.
And, a super fun photo contest to celebrate the end of it all (have you entered, because you want to as the prize is pretty sweet!).
Now it’s time to get back into the swing of the whole school thing.
Which is happy for the obvious get-the-kids-outta-your-hair reasons moms have looked forward to for generations.
But, there’s always something to complain about if you’re me, and while I fiercely enjoy the quiet I experience during #3’s daily nap time now that the big Dudes are away, I have also discovered that he talks more than a human should be forced to endure I intensely loathe the fact that those kids come home everyday with a crapload of homework.
That I have to do for them help them with.
Pretty much, I HATE homework.
Especially homework involving math worksheets featuring convoluted instructions on how to add with carrying, something they like to call “trading” nowadays because it makes more sense to kids conceptually, only it makes zero sense to parents because it’s stupid different.
Plus there are all these extracurricular activities to get them to now; soccer, gymnastics, more soccer.
Pretty much, I HATE soccer.
Especially soccer involving me chasing my toddler all over kingdom come because he wants to, “pway soccer wit da bruvers!” only he’s not allowed to pway soccer wit da bruvers because he’s super-human-baby fast and he steals the ball from the girls who then proceed to cry on the field, thereby ruining soccer not only for all of the children, but also for the parents who actually paid cash to watch their 5 year olds get pwoned by my two year old super-human-super-athlete baby.
So yeah. School sucks RULES!
But not as much as getting ready for school.
Because there’s all this like prep work involved. And, it’s expensive to boot!
Do you know that I spent 50 bucks just on pencils and paper and bullcrap like that for The Dudes?!
Seriously?
Because that middle kid can even hardly write his name, so no way is he gonna fill up an entire composition book by the end of the year, let alone two of the bloody things.
Plus they have to eat while they’re there. And it has to be healthy and filling and energy boosting stuff, which is another way for saying it has to cost a butt load of cash and will probably end up in the trash can.
#1 likes to take Lunchables so he’s easy. But #2, he likes to have salads and fresh fruits (and yes, he wears an ascot and Axe for Men too) in his lunch box.
Which means buying lunch and prepping lunch for the week is a laborious, time consuming task that causes all manner of whining from third parties and usually leaves me wanting to hurl myself in front of the school bus.
So, when My Blog Spark offered me the opportunity* to head over to Safeway (the pretty, well-stocked, far from home store that has tons of food options not available at my nearby home janky-mart) and pick up a few back to school items I was all for it.
Especially when they said they’d also throw in some Box Tops from their “2 Ways 2 Earn” Box Tops for Education and the “10% Goes Back to Schools” programs.
Now, I don’t know a thing about what those Box Tops are for, but I know that Dude #1 was all in a tizzy last year because his class was super close to beating Ms. Soandso’s class, but then Maddie and Taylor and some other kid didn’t bring any on the last week and then they lost the pizza party but at least they still got ice cream.
Or something like that.
Kidding.
They won the stupid pizza party, but only because I’m the shiz in the mom department and I suddenly found all the tops I’d been holding on to all year at the last minute.
I’m a day saver like that.
And you can be too!
Because the Box Tops for Education program is a program that allows families to earn money for their school by simply saving the box tops of participating grocery items and turning them into your school, who can then turn them into cash!
And this year even more brands are participating, making it even easier to earn money for the school of your choice.
Plus right now through September 14th, if you buy box top items from Safeway (or Dominick´s, Tom Thumb, Randalls, Vons, or Genuardi´s) they will give 10% of your purchase price to the school of your choice!**
You’ll be a a major day saving mom with this one!
Want to get a jump start on saving the day?
Safeway and General Mills are giving one lucky-mcducky pBd reader a $25 gift card to Safeway (which can also be used at Dominick´s, Tom Thumb, Randalls, Vons, and Genuardi´s) to buy all kinds of box top adorned products (or whatever the heck you want) AND a bonus Box Tops certificate worth 50 bonus box top points to share with your school.
Your kid can give his class a head start to winning the pizza party earning cash for the school.
If that doesn’t make you a day saver then I don’t know what will!
Enter to win by:
1) Being a pBd minion follower.
2) Leaving a comment telling me I saved your day about the last time you saved the day. Keep it brief though, I don’t like reading about other people for a super long time.
3) Doing 1 & 2 before I lay me down to sleep (aka midnight Eastern time) on Friday, September 3, 2010.
Happy shopping!
*pBd Admits it’s Free Disclaimer: Safeway and General Mills hooked me up with the $25 gift card and the 50 bonus Box Tops so I could check out the saving program. They will be giving you yours too, and you don’t have to give them a thing in return either. They’re givers like that.
**There are a number of steps to follow in order to take advantage of this portion of the deal. The details for that can be found here: 10% Goes Back to Schools

My son’s school is also really big into the Box Tops contests. I sent them in faithfully, but other kids have their parents collect them from others at work and some grandparents send them in. I tried getting the grands to send us some, but that requires a trip to the post office. So, in short.. I never save the day with my measley box tops.
That is a really generous deal. Sadly, we don’t have any of those chains in our area.
We don’t have Safeway.
I wonder if I have to collect those tabs. Ugh.
I’ve been hoarding Box Tops for months now! I was all ready to be the mom that helped her daughter win the pizza party until I realized I have to split the collection between 2 kids now. Sigh…
I’d love the 50 extra Box Tops, but we don’t have any of those chains around here that I know of.
I’ll enter, but someone else can have the GC.
I follow. The last time I saved the day was back in March. I logged my son on to play Webkinz Jr only to realize his subscription had expired. To make a long tearful story short, he now has 2 Webkinz Jr. animals.
Hopefully he outgrows the game by next March – those animals are NOT cheap!
Brand new school mom here. No idea if our school even does the box tops. Guess I’ll find out, huh?
And the last time I saved the day was by packing 3 baggies of fish for an outing to Gettysburg, instead of just one. One got dumped, one got slimed, and the other we ate! Score!
I’ve been collecting Box Tops for years to help our school.
The last time I saved the day was letting the spider go instead of hitting it if this counts.
I’ve been collecting box tops for years (my oldest daughter is going into high school tomorrow!!!) and have been known to rip them off OTHER PEOPLE’s recyclables. Yes, all for 10 cents to the school. Is that saving the day?
Ok, how about the time I found another mom’s keys at the park while she was frantically trying to leave with her fussy toddler??
I follow you!
Oops…forgot about the last time I saved the day…
how about yesterday…watched another mom’s crying baby so she could take care of her other crying kid.
I’m a happy minion!
Last time I saved the day? Hmm, I babysat 3 kids (2 and under) and a teen, so my friend could clean her house and go grocery shopping. Does that count?

I saved the day by putting some quarters into someone’s parking meter that had ran out of time.
I’m a follower! Now on to part two
My youngest told me that I ‘saved the day’ when I picked him and his brother up from their first day of school after they lost him for 30 minutes and they missed their bus.
I am a new follower, yay!! I shop weekly at Safeway so this gift card would ROCK!
We love our boxtops!
I saved the day last month when a friends daughter wad at daycare having chestpains. They couldn’t get ahold of her mom so I walked over with the baby and calmed her while they put her in an ambulance. She ended up fine and I felt like a hero.
Oh I totally already follow you!
I follow you. The last time I saved the day was when my daughter peed on my husband’s shirt and I had a spare shirt in the car to give him.
I follow, and my neice said I saved the day by having some gifts put back when a forgotten BD party came up on Sunday afternoon.
I follow you. The last time I saved the day was when my dh and I found a wallet in the movie theater and gave it back to a very grateful man who seemed shocked that the $300 it contained was still intact.

I saved the day by stepping up last minute to take over an end of the year race at dd’s school. If I didn’t, it would have been cancelled.
My recipe for Rice Crispies frequently saves the day when going to potluck get-togethers! lol
