Intentions !!!

by Dumb Mom on July 1, 2010

It is my intention to be a lot of things.

On the rare occasion in which something super happens to me specifically because I made it I tell myself that I was intentionally awesome and that this intentionality is what made the specific bit of awesome occur.

Generally that is not the case.

Fact of the matter is that, when awesome happens to this dummy there is a whole lotta happenstance and coincidence going on.

But, I do have a tendency to be intentionally grumpy and intentionally difficult and intentionally disconcerted about things.

Daily life sorta things.

The sorta things that have no business making me grumpy or difficult or disconcerted.

Like #3 deciding to pee in his pants. Every. Single. Evening.  Just because we are playing outside and he is too busy to be bothered with walking over to a tree to drop a line.

Or.  Like #1 going to the pool and forgetting his towel. Every. Single. Morning.  Just because he is pouting about not being able to watch morning cartoons because he has to go to swim team practice (which he signed up for because he wanted to, by the way).

That sorta stuff.

Kid stuff that I love them for, but secretly sometimes hate them for too.*

I should be used to it (I’ve been a mom for nearly 9 years already).

I should appreciate it (I wanted them, and more, ever so badly).

Because one day they will be off getting grumpy at their own kids and I will be missing their urine soaked undershorts like nobody’s business.

Now, cut to two of my most inspiring blogging pals: CK of Bad Mommy Moments and Kat of Mama’s Losin’ It.

BMM and her friend came up with this…

Intentional Happiness

Bad Mommy Moments !!! Momalom !!!

It’s about being happy.

Intentionally happy.

As opposed to what I do.

Getting the !!! sticker in the mail got me on a mission.

A be-intentionally-happy-or-go-ahead-and-shove-a-salad-fork-in-your-eyeball-and-end-it-already mission.

Because, I’ll admit it, summer has been getting the best of me.

And, my little !!! showed up just in time to possibly maybe sorta kinda fingers-so-tightly-crossed-they-are-turning-blue change things for me.

It got here right on the same day that Mama Kat and her telepathic wisdom posted this as one of her Writer’s Workshop choices for the week: “Write a list of 10 things that are sure to put a smile on your face when you are not able to go to the midnight showing of Eclipse because of these needy kids and work-a-holic husband happy.”

Clearly these two ladies are in make-Dumb-Mom-happy-because-we-love-her-to-pieces cahoots.

It worked ladies.  It.  Worked (but in no particular order because I’m REALLY bad at making decisions)…

Avocado.  Been eating the crap outta the stuff.  It’s “good” fat, right? RIGHT?!

Looking at old pictures of myself I discovered this weekend at Mimi’s house and LMAO! Amazing that I had any friends at all.

Stank-dirty boy feet.  Haven’t seen the inside of a shoe in weeks. Obviously.

Dudes that put their pants on sideways and refuse to let me fix them.

One million popsicles for less than $1 that The Dudes LOVE.

Our itty-bitty turtles that are miraculously still alive.  And well.

Little boys who are so tired from swimming in the lake that they don’t give a care if you stick some bullcrap on their foreheads and take pictures of them.

The kid who sits on the porch booty-butt naked and waits for the trash man because “Da twass man wans ta sees me Mommy! Him does!”

The only fruits The Dudes will eat in their non-smoothie form that are abundant AND affordable AND tasty only during the summer.

Mornings with Bully, and Baby, and Sparky, and El-Phant sans Whining, and Crying, and Kicking, and Screaming.

Add to that, rearview-mirror-window-feet, big kid teeth, hands-full-‘o-rocks, Bad Mommy Moments neighborhood vandalization kits, The Dudes just chillaxin’ (which I require them to say just to piss off Dumb Dad), boys who wear pink and pick flowers for their mama’s, and making my kids do things because it makes me laugh and you’ve got yourself one intentionally happy lady who doesn’t even care that she’s sorta dumb.

And for that, BMM with a chaser of MK, I thank you.

*Please note.  I DO NOT hate my children ever, for any reason, so please don’t leave some crazy-lady comment about how terrible I am for saying that.  It’s a figure of speech that I like to utilize for emphasis.  I also don’t hate skinny girls, dancers, gold medal athletes, or Victoria Beckham because she gets to slide into David’s bed every night, but I like to say that I do.  Okay, so I kinda really do hate skinny girls who also happen to be Victoria Beckham.  But, I’ve nothing against gold medalists, dancers, or my children so save it.  XOXO:)

I love how you put pictures in your Writer’s Workshop! I did the same post. We all need to remind ourselves what keeps us happy and puts a smile on our face, huh?

I think that is sooo fantastic. It really has to be those things that keep us happy or else everything would just be Bleh!!! I found it in having to scrub poop smeard walls from a three year old learning to wipe his bum…LOL
Yes the !!! Moments.
Great pics BTW.

Thank you for sharing the happy. It’s so easy to get caught up in the frustrations and aggravations of parenting sometimes, and it’s nice to be reminded that, yeah, intentional happiness is often a choice and a good one to make.

Whenever I visit your site, I leave with a smile. By the way, those green popsicles are so yummy (the blue ones, too).

It’s all about keeping things in perspective. Motherhood is a tough job. Your post is wonderful – a reminder of all the ups and downs.

My kids love those popsicles and want to eat them ALL the time, like for breakfast.

These are the best pictures. I love them.

When I read this last night I went to sleep with sweet, peaceful thoughts. I swear. How hokey, right? But really…this intentional happiness thing is the ONLY thing that makes sense in my hectic, all-too-crazy life right now.

Your photographs are stunning. That avocado? Yup, it was my lunch yesterday. Mashed up with a few chips and a whole lotta finger-lickin’! Mmmmmm.

First off – who eats avocado?? Ewww, I say, ewww.

Second, you are the smartest dummy I know. Truly. Thanks for being all inspirational and stuff and giving my Mama even more reasons to shout “You suck woman, get it together!” in the mirror. Or maybe she’ll just practice !!!ing in the mirror a few times. You know, try it on for awhile and see how it feels to !!!.

Realizing that some day you’re going to miss some of the “intentional grumpy, intentionally difficult and intentionally disconcerting” moments really is a !!! too. Great post and combination of memes too! :)
