RanDumb: Remembering

by Dumb Mom on April 30, 2010

This is the first real week of Old School Photo Friday.  Are you in?

Well, even if you completely neglected me, I’ll forgive you and share one with you anyway.

A Mother’s Day one.  Because Mother’s Day is right around the corner and I’ve been thinking a lot about what I’m gonna tell them to buy me the upcoming day.

Mostly because I have to work on Mother’s Day so the logistics of it are kind of difficult, but also because now that my boys are getting older I’m relishing my Mother’s Day events even more and am hoping to do something involving me relaxing quietly meaningful this year.

So, let’s kick it old school with a photo from a Mother’s Day gone by…

scan0007

Who is that thin-ish chick with the cute kid?

It’s me!  And, #1 on one of my earlier Mother’s Days, before the addition of #2 and #3 made Mother’s Day pretty much like every other day of the year: exhausting and rushed.

I don’t recall exactly where we went or what we did, I guess my memory is not as good as I thought it was, but I know I had a wonderful day (any day involving food, gifts, and relaxation is a good day in my book).

I just wish I could remember where we were, or what we even did.  It’s happening more than I ever imagined it would; me forgetting things I thought for sure I’d remember forever.

And that’s sad.

So, to help us recall all of the memorable moments we can’t seem to remember despite our promises to ourselves that we will, Dumb Dad came up with this great idea.

It’s called the, “Whatchu Talkin’ ‘Bout Willis?” Jar.

Each time one of The Dudes says something funny, or ridiculous, or laugh-out-loud RanDumb, we write it down, along with the date, and the source (#1, #2, #3).

For example…

When #2 ran into the kitchen a few weeks ago and said, “I wish I had my own theme song!” We put that in the jar.

Or.  When #2 and #1 got into a fight heated discussion, #2 was overheard saying to #1, “I’ll throw you out in space and erase your history and you’ll be stuck forever!”.  We put that in the jar, too.

And.  When engaged in a game of Versus*, and #2 posed the ultimate question: Santa v. Jesus, who would win?  We, naturally put that into the jar too!

See what a magical thing the, “Whatchu Talking ‘Bout” jar is?!

It helps you recall all of the RanDumb things your most insult-creative verbally expressive child says (and the other kids’ stuff too).

Even those things you’d hoped thought you’d be able to forget live on in infamy (mostly because Dumb Dad never fails to include them).  Like the time #2, upset over his healthy snack options, said to me, “YOU ARE THE WORSTEST! YOU’RE A STANKIN’ SQUIRREL!”

Because, while it wasn’t funny at the time (lying, it totally was and I probably laughed even though I shouldn’t have), it is definitely funny now.

Well, sorta.

*For clarification, Versus is a game The Dudes and Dumb Dad often play in which they  pit various beasts/elements/etc. against each other and discuss which is most likely to win and why.  For example past Versus have included dragons v. tigers, knights v. ninjas, and tornadoes v. earthquakes.  Versus takes up a good chunk of our nightly dinner conversation during which I sit and pick at my nails.

I love your jar! I want to read all of those random phrases, okay? :)
You seriously crack me up!

I love what you said about mother’s day being just like any other day — exhausting and rushed. I can relate!

I want you to know I’m reading you every day, even if I don’t have time for a comment. I’m wishin’ we could meet for lunch, but I’m afraid if we did, you’d make me laugh and my drink would come out my nose. This is much cleaner, and you can just think I’m sweet and classy this way.

I love the idea of the jar. I’m always forgetting cute stuff my kids say. I’ll have to see if I can find any old photos.

The jar is an awesome idea! I need to do something like that. Sometimes I sent myself texts if I’m away from home when one of the kids says something funny.

Love the picture. I could totally tell it was #1 you were holding. Handsome boy.

You stankin’ squirrel!

I’m not sure if I’ve EVER really gotten to celebrate Mother’s Day. Last Mother’s Day went completely unobserved, as it was the day my grandma died. And the ones before that, who knows? Obviously unremarkable. This Mother’s Day better be all about me, dammit!

Okay the jar is good…but “You’re a STANKIN SQUIRREL” is freaking brilliant and may go worldwide.

One of these days I will understand my camera and y’all better look out.

You are adorable and that picture looks exactly how I remember seeing you at BBC when you were goofing off and misbehaving at table number 8. Or was it 9?

I can’t remember.

Sippy cup+Mimosa. Bad for memory :)
